Bestial Shepherd | Oluyemi Elisha

We all know of crooked brutes

Hoisting flags of guardian angels—

Our own uniformed protectors.

A squad of armed barbarians
Gathers to serve and protect our lot.
They’re aliens; Peace will never reign.

Speak of guardian angels
Who detest being seen as cherubs,
But would rather dine with Beelzebub.

You’re moulded to herald peace.
But those who should enjoy the calm
You’ve turned into food for weapons.

We fought so hard to gain freedom.
Did we stamp out imperialists?
To be oppressed by our shepherds?

When a safe haven is scrapped
For a haunting pit of vipers,
I see a land, deprived of hope.

Ah! Dare you forget the vow you made—
To spill your blood to fight for the state.
Now, they’re all lies and broken pledges.

When one ordained to crush terror
Turns back to expunge innocence,
I see darkness; a hella chains!

Remember now the overthrow
Of world’s formidable miscreants!
You’ll soon fit well in their shoes!

Oh Defenders! Lord Protectors!
Manicure your itchy hands!
Save your fury for missions wars!
